Munson Medical Center, repeatedly named one of the top cardiovascular in the nation, delivers trusted heart care in northern Michigan.
Munson has recently received recognition as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the United States from Thompson Reuters, thanks to Munson's partnership with Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Grand Traverse, Grand Traverse Heart Associates, Great Lakes Cardiology, and NorthWest Michigan Heart & Vascular Specialists.
The Heart Center
Patients in Munson’s new 98-bed Heart Center benefit from a collaborative approach to cardiac care. All cardiovascular services are located on four floors in the hospital’s new A Tower including:
- A 30-bed cardiothoracic surgery unit
- A 30-bed cardiology unit providing intensive care and post-interventional care
- A 38-bed medical cardiology unit specializing in heart failure, and noninvasive cardiology services.
All patient care units in the Heart Center feature acuity-adjusted care rooms, meaning most patients remain in the same private room throughout their stay while the level of care adjusts to the patient’s needs. Amenities for patients and families include a family area with sleeping accommodations, desk, television, and Internet access.
Cardiologists
Cardiologists travel to see patients in Alpena, Bear Lake, Cadillac, Frankfort, Gaylord, Grayling, Kalkaska, Sault Ste. Marie, and Traverse City. More than 300 cardiac catherization procedures take place annually within a mobile unit, which regularly visits hospitals throughout the region.
