Volunteers fill many roles at Munson Hospice and
Palliative Care. They are an important part of the patient care
team, providing a special kind of caring and compassion to Hospice
patients and their families. For many volunteers, the rewards
and friendships gained while offering time and energy help create
one of the most gratifying experiences of their life. Munson Hospice
and Palliative Care relies on a team of dedicated volunteers to
help provide compassionate, end-of-life-care not only in patient
homes, but also at the Munson Hospice House.
What kind of volunteer training is required?
An initial, comprehensive, 18-hour volunteer training course as
well as ongoing educational offerings is provided. An abbreviated
training program for office volunteers is also available.
How do volunteers assist patients and their families?
Patient care volunteers visit, read to patients, prepare meals,
run errands, provide respite care, provide bereavement follow-up
visits, and various other duties. Some patient care volunteers
also provide professional hair care, massage therapy, or legal
work.
Are there other needs for volunteers besides
patient care?
Absolutely! We always have need for clerical help and committee
participation in fundraising, newsletters, special projects, etc.
How much time are volunteers expected to provide?
Volunteers are asked to be available to dedicate 3-5 hours per
week to Hospice when on an assignment.
What if I want to volunteer but work full time?
Several Munson Hospice and Palliative Care volunteers work full
time. When assigning volunteers, we work around employment schedules.
