Mercy Family Welcomes Dr. Victor L. Dominguez

He joins Dr. Jay Hoffman, a former colleague of his, on April 27 in Prudenville

An unusual chain of events has reunited two former colleagues at Mercy Family Care Prudenville.

Drs. Jay T. Hoffman and Victor L. Dominguez worked together in Mt. Pleasant at the last remaining state-operated facility for persons with developmental disabilities. The state’s recent closure of that facility prompted Hoffman to call his former colleague.

“Victor is an excellent physician and a good friend,” said Hoffman.

The Gladwin resident has dedicated his 27-year career to rural care, a trait inspired by his physician parents who did the same.

“I am a simple person – what you see is what you get,” said Dominguez, an avid downhill skier who is married with three children and three grandchildren. “Living in a small community is like becoming part of a big family.”

Hoffman and Dominguez also worked together in 2005 when they joined a group of physicians to volunteer in Pass Christian, Mississippi, three days after Hurricane Katrina demolished the area.

“When you work under difficult conditions like Jay and I did in Pass Christian, you get to know a person’s character,” Dominguez said. “I am very much looking forward to joining him in Prudenville.”
