Breastfeeding
for healthy babies and mothers!
Babies who are breastfed for at least six months
have fewer health problems than babies who are artificially fed,
including:
- 3 times fewer ear infections
- 5 times fewer urinary tract infections
- 5 times fewer serious illnesses
- 7 times fewer allergies
Other benefits include:
- Less asthma
- Less diabetes
- Less chronic digestive diseases
- Higher IQs
- Lower incidence of SIDS
Women who breastfeed lower their risk of breast,
ovarian, and uterine cancer, as well as osteoporosis.
Breastfeeding Preparation Class
Breastfeeding is a natural, though learned, skill for both mother
and newborn. A preparation class is recommended for mothers and
support persons to ensure a successful breastfeeding experience.
Please attend in expectant mother's third trimester. Class meets
one evening several times a year.

Breastfeeding Support Group
...for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Reassurance and answers
to your questions from a registered nurse/lactation educator and
peers. Group meets every Tuesday in the basement classroom at
KMHC from 6 to 7:30 pm. Please come share your experiences in
this informal, friendly setting.

Individual Breastfeeding Assistance

The American Academy of Pediatrics identifies
breastfeeding as the ideal method of feeding and nurturing infants
and recognizes breastfeeding as primary in achieving
optimal infant and child health, growth, and
development. It is recommended that
breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter
for as long as mutually desired.
