The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has deemed that Mercy’s Holistic Health Care program is a "Best Practice" to be modeled in other health care facilities. Holistic Nursing Interventions are available for surgery patients at Mercy Hospital Grayling. Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Aromatherapy, and tapes are available through the Holistic Clinical Practice program.

Guided Imagery is provided by audiotapes developed specifically for surgical patients by Bell Naparstek and have been proven to reduce pain and promote healing and comfort. Music from the Bell Naparstek tapes can be played during surgery. Although patients are asleep during surgery, the tapes can support the patient during this time of significant stress to the mind-body-spirit.

Therapeutic touch is an energy-based therapeutic nursing intervention where the nurse uses touch to influence the energy system and promote relaxation, comfort, pain relief, and healing.
