Munson Medical Center’s Orthopedic services ranked as the top program in Michigan for 2008. The ranking came from the Tenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study that analyzed patient outcomes at most of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals during the years 2004, 2005, and 2006. The ranking in February 2008 honored the efforts of Munson’s interdisciplinary team that includes orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, nurses, operating room staff, and rehabilitation staff. Munson Medical Center received the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2006. Magnet designation is the highest honor bestowed on nursing and recognizes excellence in patient care standards, respect of cultural and ethnic diversity, leadership of the nurse administrator in supporting professional nursing practice, and the management and philosophy of nursing services.
Munson Medical Center and three surgeons from Grand Traverse Surgery, PC, were recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence in April 2008. The designation from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery follows a thorough review of the hospital’s program and physician practices.
As a result of a consistent record of excellence, in 2003 Munson was presented 100 Top Hospitals: Benchmarks for Success Award— the Best of the Benchmark Hospitals by Thomson Reuters.
MMC was sole recipient of the National Quality Health Care Award for 2000, presented in Washington DC. Award presented by National Quality Forum.
