Requirements

• A Registry-Eligible or Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy
• Proficient in all aspects of pediatric and adult respiratory care
• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification required during orientation

Specialties

Respiratory therapists at MMC must be able to provide care for all patients — from neonates to geriatrics.

Scholarships

Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation scholarships are available.

$2,500 tuition reimbursement per calendar year is available. Must be employed by Munson Medical Center and working at least 16 hours per week to receive this benefit. Guidelines are defined in Munson Medical Center's Tuition Reimbursement policy.

Educational reimbursement scholarships of $2,500 are also available to new graduates. Additional scholarships are available through the American Association of Respiratory Care. For more details, please visit their Web site.

Specific Duties

• Provides assessment of patients' respiratory status
  
• Utilizes protocols prescribed by physicians and administer care as needed
  
• Schedules ordered respiratory care for optimal therapeutic results
  
• Attends high risk deliveries
  
• Performs NICU transports (ground and air)

Salary Expectations

• Base $17.71 - $25.86 per hour
  
• $.70 per hour shift differential afternoon shift (3 - 11 pm)
  
• $2.00 per hour shift differential midnight shift (11 pm - 7 am)
  
• Midnight incentive paid out two times per year

Employment History

Respiratory Therapy is one of the fastest growing health care professions and the need for Respiratory Therapists is expected to increase 42.6 % for the period of 1998-2008 according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Respiratory Therapists generally work between 36 and 40 hours per week. Because hospitals operate around the clock, therapists may work evenings, nights, or weekends. Many therapists work 12 hour shifts.
