Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology, or a Licensed
Practical Nurse with previous scrub experience. Certification
as a C.S.T is desired.
Specialties
Certified surgical technologists with additional specialized education
may act in the role of first assistant working in Munson's Operating
Room or at the Northwest Michigan Surgery Center.
$2,500 tuition reimbursement
per calendar year is available. Must be employed by Munson Medical
Center and working at least 16 hours per week to receive this
benefit. Guidelines are defined in Munson Medical Center's Tuition
Reimbursement policy.
Specific Duties
Assists surgeon during operative procedures,
including the following:
holds retractors
cauterizes instruments
passes and places ties at surgeons request
may assist with surgical wound closure
Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology
and operative techniques
Sets up sterile field and maintains according
to department specific guidelines
Assists the circulating nurse by moving
patients, positioning, and prepping patient for the procedure,
cleans and prepares instruments, and assists in the application
of securing dressings and casts
